GALAS
Teamipswich Swimming participates in several different types of galas. Some galas will be open to all swimmers whereas others will be determined by the coach or time constraints. Galas that will be supported by the club will be posted on the notice board.
SPEEDO LEAGUE:
Teamipswich Swimming is a member of the London Division Speedo League. This league is a team format for swimmers 10 and above. The age groups are, 10/11, 12/13, 14/15, and 16+. There are 3 rounds in the London Division, October, November and December. The National Speedo League Championships are held in April or May with invitation from the top 2 teams from the London Division. The age cut-off for the Speedo league is 31 Dec. Team selection is made by the relevant squad coaches and will be posted on the Swimmer Notice Board approximately 2 weeks prior to the meet date.
EASTERN JUNIOR LEAGUE – JUNIOR SPEEDO INTER-LEAGUE
Teamipswich Swimming participates in the Eastern Junior League that feeds into the National Junior Speedo Inter-League Championships. This league is a team format for swimmers 9 – 12 years of age with 2 meets in May and June. The Championship rounds are in October and November and are only open to the winner of the Eastern Junior League. The age cut-off for the Eastern Junior League is usually in late June, whereas the age cut-off for the Championship rounds is late November. Team selection is made by the relevant squad coaches and will be posted on the Swimmer Notice Board approximately 2 weeks prior to the meet date.
OPEN MEETS
Teamipswich Swimming hosts 4 galas during the year and participates in others around the country. Licensed open meets will have ranges of times that swimmers must meet to enter. These can be found on the entry packets of each open meet. Novice open meets will have upper time standards that swimmers may not exceed. The club has an Open Meet Coordinator that will collect entries and money. Be sure to check the deadlines for entries as late entries are often not accepted.
Teamipswich Swimming members may opt to attend open meets that are not on the Fixtures List. These meets will be handled by individual swimmers and parents and will not be coordinated through the club nor will a coach be provided.
SUFFOLK COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS
Suffolk County ASA sponsors an annual championship in March of every year. Swimmers must meet specific qualification times to participate. Relay team selection will be made by a panel of relevant squad coaches. Rules, qualifying times, and information are available at the Suffolk County Website: www.suffolkswimming.org
EAST REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS
The ASA East Region sponsors a Long Course Championship in November of every year. In addition, there are youth and age group championships held in May and June respectively each year. Swimmers must meet specific qualification times at licensed events to participate. . Relay team selection will be made by a panel of relevant squad coaches. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
British Swimming hosts age group and youth championships in late July/early August every year. Swimmers must meet specific qualification times at licensed events to participate. Relay team selection will be made by a panel of relevant squad coaches. Rules, qualifying times, and information are available at the British Swimming website: www.britishswimming.org
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Teamipswich Swimming hosts club championships for ALL members that have held membership for a minimum of 3 months. Club Championships are swum in November of each year with an awards presentation scheduled for a later date. There is a nominal fee for each event and a fee to enter the presentation night, which is usually coordinated with a disco.
DEVELOPMENTAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Suffolk County ASA hosts a developmental championship in June of every year. This championships are directed to swimmers that are below the cut off for the March Championships. Rules, qualifying times, and information are available at the Suffolk County Website: www.suffolkswimming.org
NOVICE INVITATIONAL/DUAL MEETS
Teamipswich Swimming may participate in novice invitational galas throughout the year. These galas will be in a team format. Swimmers are chosen by the relevant squad coaches and selections will be posted on the Swimmer Notice Board approximately 2 weeks prior to the meet date.
COLOURS MEET
Teamipswich Swimming hosts an inter-club dual meet that is sponsored by the head coach. The head coach assigns team captains and vice-captains and assigns swimmers to a Blue or White team. Team captains are in charge of swimmer selection within their given team for individual and relay events. This meet is usually held in late December prior to the holiday break.
