U13s secure first tournament win
TeamIpswich Water Polo under 13s secured their first ever tournament win with a clean sweep of victories in their home round of the Eastern Water Polo League held at Crown Pools on April 13.
The Ipswich U13 section was set up only just over a year ago following a grant from Kellogg’s swim active and in that time the club has been working hard to develop a squad of competitive water polo players.
TeamIpswich's first game against Colchester, who they had narrowly lost to earlier in the year, was expected to be a key match. But a strong team effort led to three goals from Parnell, two from Poole and one from Harris to take an impressive Ipswich 6-3 victory.
A 6-2 win against Chelmsford was achieved by two goals from Parnell and Harris and a goal a piece from the impressive Mayall sisters.
Basildon won the last tournament at this age group and they had noticed Ipswich’s Parnell’s goal scoring ability so their tactic was to mark him heavily. But other players in the Ipswich squad stepped up to the mark and with goals from Poole, Harris and a goal a piece again from the Mayall sisters a nailbiting 4 – 3 win was achieved.
Ipswich went on to win against SC Torpedoes, and having played 4 and won 4 Ipswich U13s had won their first ever tournament.
Parnell with 13 goals took the tournament top goal scorer award.
